Underground Service Locating Leader

Woods is a multi-disciplinary consultancy providing engineering, surveying, urban planning & design, and geospatial services to clients across a range of sectors.

The Woods Geospatial Services team is responsible for delivering on the complex geospatial needs of clients from sectors as diverse as transport, water, energy, telecommunications and land development.

We utilise some of the most advanced data acquisition technologies, including LiDAR, photogrammetry, ground penetrating radar (GPR), and pavement assessment technologies to develop high-precision survey-grade 3D geospatial models.We are constantly looking to evolve our capabilities to answer the most demanding problems.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an Underground Service Locating Leader to join the Woods Geospatial team in Auckland.

In this role, you will not only be working with our clients to locate underground assets on a day-to-day basis but also working to further enhance our technical capabilities in this domain, help win new business and provide leadership and guidance to our other service locators.

It is expected that you will have a strong understanding of underground service detection, with the ability to deploy both 2D Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic Induction (EMI) techniques in the field.Experience with 3D GPR and GNSS positioning technology is advantageous but not a must.

As well as being highly experienced in the field, we are seeking a digitally savvy candidate who wants to push and evolve how their services are communicated to clients.

Beyond your technical skills, we’re looking for someone with leadership qualities, who is highly competent in communication and problem solving and who has an appetite to lead and grow the service locating function.

There is a balance of field and office-based work, and a requirement to be able to travel out of town from time to time.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in the practice of Underground Service Location
• Preferably with field and office competencies
• Preferably with Transpower EC2 certification
• Aptitude and orientated towards implementing new hardware, software and workflows
• Excellent attention to detail, communication and people skills, report writing
• Flexibility in travelling to locations outside of the Auckland Metro area
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Full New Zealand Driver’s License
• Desirable - an interest and passion for client engagement, pricing and business development
• Desirable - experience with GNSS, GIS, laser scanning, UAV’s, surveying and other geospatial technologies advantageous
