About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a fixed term, full-time position as Fellow in Childrens Emergency Department for up to 12 months commencing in February

In this role, you will provide leadership in the Childrens Emergency Department clinically and non-clinically to ensure that all children we care for receive excellent and equitable care.

You will be involved in a variety of non-clinical areas, such as supervision of junior staff, medical and nursing education, quality improvement and research.

You will utilise your expertise by your involvement in clinical guideline and pathway development, medical education, multi-disciplinary team training, contributing to organisational wide systems such as mass casualty preparedness and pandemic responses.

To improve the care of all acutely unwell and injured children in New Zealand you will promote Paediatric Emergency Medicine both regionally and at a National level.

About the Team / Service / Location

The Starship Childrens Emergency Department is the only dedicated Emergency Department in New Zealand designed to focus exclusively on the needs of children.

The Childrens Emergency Department (CED) is the regional paediatric advanced trauma centre and we specialise in meeting the needs of acutely ill or injured children and young people ranging from birth to 15 years of age.

We are supported by the tertiary level medical, surgical, radiology and intensive care services that are provided within Starship Childrens Hospital.

CED works within a multidisciplinary framework that includes Maori support workers, Pacific Island support workers, play specialists, social workers and clerical staff who work closely with the nursing and medical teams.

Auckland City Hospital is the largest in New Zealand and is based in the heart of Auckland City which has been voted the 5th best city in the world.

About you

To be successful, you must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligible for such registration (General Registration).

Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand.

Preference will be given to New Zealand Citizens and New Zealand residents as per New Zealand employment requirements, though overseas candidates are welcome to apply.

Advanced trainee in Paediatric Emergency Medicine or Emergency MedicinePrevious Registrar level clinical experience- at least six months of Paediatric Medicine, six months of Paediatric Intensive Care, and six months of Paediatric Emergency Medicine, preferably in a tertiary hospital setting.Preferably, final 1-2 years of advanced training in PEM or EM specialty training programWorking at Health New Zealand
