What is the role of a Programme Coordinator at MSD?

The Programme Coordinator is a critical role that connects MSD clients with MSD’s employment‑related programmes and services. Our high‑performing PC team are responsible for sourcing and managing client referrals from our frontline teams to get the right people into our programmes. This involves :

  • Marketing our programme opportunities to our front‑line teams using a variety of approaches : via presentations, face‑to‑face, our online portal and internal website and flyers
  • Managing the client referral system, monitoring referrals and troubleshooting to make sure programmes are full.
  • Liaising with programme providers and contributing to proactive relationship management.
  • Monitoring programme performance and advising the Regional Contract Manager about potential issues or opportunities for improvement.

It’s a role that makes a real difference for people. It helps open doors to learning and opportunities, experience that can quite simply change someone’s life. It’s a people role – great if you enjoy meeting and engaging with people, internally and in the community. Some desk work and some out and about.

It’s a rewarding role – you are matching people to the courses and programmes that are right for them. You’re directly involved in helping people and their whānau get to a better life outcome.

It’s interesting and varied work – we have a wide range of programmes from helping people to manage their mental health, advice on personal presentation and help with clothing for interviews, along with all the support available for getting ready for work, CV and interview preparation, industry‑specific courses e.g. Contact Centre, Project Management, Customer Service, Construction, Hospitality, etc.

Marketing & promotions involved – so you can be creative, show and develop your presentation skills.

In this role you will also help advise our job seekers about courses and programmes which help them identify their natural potential, learn new skills, and prepare them for employment. You will interact with our own people, providers, community groups and other key stakeholders, providing information and support. It’s all about identifying sustainable employment outcomes for our clients to support them to be economically independent.

Key Criteria for Selection as a Program Coordinator :

  • Exceptional communication skills, with experience in building strong professional relationships and a talent for influencing, marketing, and storytelling.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities, able to tackle challenges with creativity.
  • Excellent self‑management, including strong time‑management, organisational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • A natural curiosity and interest in current labour market trends, including an understanding of in‑demand jobs, skills, and what organisations are looking for.
  • Compassion and empathy—showing respect for individuals and supporting clients in achieving a better life is at the heart of how we work.
  • Additional criteria :

  • Relevant experience in recruitment, marketing, or sales.
  • Proven problem‑solving abilities and a capacity for seeing the bigger picture.
  • Ability to build and sustain strong relationships with stakeholders, demonstrating a collaborative, partnership‑driven approach.
  • A positive attitude. While we’ll teach you about MSD, our programmes, partnerships, and vision, we’re looking for someone who can bring their unique strengths, enthusiasm, and drive. We’ll support your learning, but the magic comes from you!
  • You will be a great brand ambassador for MSD and the work we do to help New Zealanders.

    Salary | Utu-ā-tau : $69,519.00 - $84,041.00
