Be part of a once-in-a-generation opportunity to recover heritage materials and deliver value back to the Waitaki community.
Overview : After 126 years of service, the second Kakanui River Bridge is being replaced. The new bridge is under construction and scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026.
The existing bridge will serve the community one last time — through a planned deconstruction and material recovery project. Valuable Australian hardwoods and other materials will be salvaged for recycling, repurposing, and reuse, bringing lasting benefit to the Waitaki community.
