Permanent, full-time role

Based in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty

We are looking for an Early Intervention Teacher to be part of a close-knit, community-focused team that maximises learning and promotes social inclusion for children and young people with learning support needs.

As an Early Intervention Teacher, you will play a critical role in our region's Learning Support team by :

providing high quality learning support in line with the Ministry's practice framework, He Pikorua, and the guiding principles, strands and goals of Te Whariki : Early Childhood Curriculum and Te Whariki a te Kohanga Reo

building and strengthening the capability of those who are best placed to support children's learning such as parents, whanau, caregivers, teachers and other specialists

assessing and understanding the families' needs, collaboratively planning, supporting and monitoring the implementation of individual (or group) intervention plans

supporting transition points in the child's learning pathway, such as transition into early childhood education and to school as required

working holistically as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child's needs are complex.

Salary range : $69,966 - $118,450 per annum + 3% kiwi saver.

The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mohou ake

To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following capabilities and competencies.

a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood)

a Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching : Early Intervention or the ability to attain this within four years of beginning in the position

a minimum of three years' teaching experience and a deep knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour

an understanding of a range of needs and disabilities and their implications for daily functioning in family life, and for teaching and learning in the context of early childhood and family homes

the ability to develop and interact effectively with people of other cultures focusing on relationship and recognising their identity, language and culture as a source of strength

excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with akonga (learners), whanau (families) and kaiako (teachers) across a diverse range of settings

the ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga

a full current driver licence as travel will be required

Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Te Tai Whenua (Central) Group in the Ministry.

We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.

Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, whanau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Maori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.
