About the Role

Join us in shaping a healthier future for Aotearoa! NPHS Te Waipounamu Regional team is seeking a passionate and skilled Health Promotion Advisor to join our Community and Whānau Wellbeing team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to transformational change in our health system, guided by the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) vision and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

As a Health Promotion Advisor, you will lead and support initiatives that enhance community health and wellbeing. You'll work collaboratively with whānau, hapū, iwi, Pacific communities, and other stakeholders to address the determinants of health, eliminate disparities, and promote equity.

About the Team / Service / Location

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga / wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

About you

You are someone with excellent relationship management, influencing and facilitation skills. You can work in an evidence-based way, integrating health promotion frameworks, health data and community insights to inform priorities and programme development. You have excellent communication skills and be able to adapt information and complex ideas to a wide range of audiences.

With a focus on achieving equity, you will work closely with local government, iwi and hapū, and priority communities to bring about positive change on a wide range of issues such as immunisation, screening, smokefree / vape free, food environments, physical activity, alcohol, emergency management and mental wellbeing. You have a willingness to build constructive and effective relationships with stakeholders, understanding their needs and environment.
