Overview
The Principal Finance Business Partner reports to the Head of Finance Business Partnering and provides strategic financial leadership, team leadership, and deep technical expertise to support effective decision-making and performance across the business.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Head of Finance Business Partnering to develop and deliver portfolio work programmes, set priorities, and drive long-term financial strategy.
- Lead multiple complex projects with effective planning techniques, maximise team capability, and ensure alignment with organisational goals.
- Build, monitor, and maintain fit-for-purpose structures that improve cost-effectiveness and support strategic objectives.
- Adapt work programmes responsively to changing circumstances while delivering high-value financial support.
- Influence and guide teams to deliver outputs efficiently, including directing others without formal authority when required.
- Propose and implement strategic initiatives that introduce new ways of working across business groups for improved outcomes.
- Model exemplary leadership behaviours as part of the senior leadership team, fostering innovation, learning, and knowledge sharing.
- Provide advanced data-driven analysis and generate actionable insights from financial and operational data to support informed decision-making.
- Mentor Finance Business Partners by building technical capability and acting as a subject matter expert in financial aspects relevant to the business group.
- Prepare high-quality reports and presentations for senior leadership, incorporating insightful analysis and clear recommendations to support robust decision-making.
Person specification
Demonstrated experience in senior management roles within large, complex organisations, public or private sector, providing strategic financial management.Tertiary qualification in accounting, business administration or management with CAANZ Chartered Accountant status (or equivalent international qualification).Proven ability to lead teams effectively without direct reporting lines by inspiring trust and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders.Exceptional analytical skills with commercial acumen; able to interpret data for strategic planning purposes.Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities; able to present complex messages simply and concisely.Track record of building successful working relationships at all levels, including senior leaders, contributing positively as part of a leadership team.Experience in leading change initiatives that improve processes or outcomes within finance or related functions.High standards of professionalism with a commitment to delivering quality results consistently under minimal supervision.Ability to identify capability gaps within teams or functions and address them through training or process improvement.About the job
