We take pride in producing world-class market kraft pulps, which are used in a wide range of boards and specialty products around the world.About the roleWe are seeking an experienced Functional Safety Engineer to lead the governance and delivery of safety-critical systems at Kinleith Mill.
This newly created position plays a pivotal role in embedding functional safety into all aspects of our operations, ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and IEC 61508 / 61511 standards.
You will partner across departments to integrate functional safety throughout the full safety lifecycle—from design and commissioning to maintenance, auditing, and continuous improvement.
This is an opportunity to shape how functional safety is delivered at one of New Zealand's largest industrial sites.ResponsibilitiesLeading and enhancing the site's Functional Safety Management System (FSMS)Coordinating Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments and maintaining lifecycle documentationEmbedding functional safety principles into plant design, commissioning, and operationsReviewing and challenging safety-critical designs, supporting change management, and troubleshootingDriving a strong safety culture through audits, training, and continuous improvement initiativesQualificationsTo thrive in this role, you will need to be a strong communicator, a collaborative team player, and a proactive problem solver who can adapt to changing priorities.
You will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Control Systems, Instrumentation, or Mechatronics Engineering, with substantial hands-on experience in industrial automation, process safety, or control systems.
