Suicide Prevention Postvention Coordinator, NelsonHospital, Fixed Term Part-time

A unique opportunity to work in a valued role, building capacity in the community, making a real difference to people's lives by supporting organisations and whanau with suicide prevention and postvention initiatives and programs.

Work with community to deliver the national action plan on suicide prevention at a local level ensuring the needs of high-risk groups are prioritised.

Use your diverse skills including facilitation, training, skilled communication, application of research to practice and project implementation.

Using your relationship building and networking skills, partner with a variety of stakeholders and key collaborators such as Kia Piki Te Ora Coordinators, NM Health NZ and Primary health governance and management, NGO and community leaders.

About the Role

As a

Suicide Prevention Postvention Coordinator

you will play a pivotal role supporting an integrated approach to suicide prevention, intervention and postvention.

No two days are the same as you build capacity and support hospital, specialty health services, and community organisations.

An understanding of community development, strategic planning, clinical pathways and networks is desirable.

This is a fixed term, part-time role covering parental leave for up to 12 months.

The working hours will be 40 per fortnight (0.5 FTE), Monday to Friday.

This position operates across Te Tauihu (Top of the South) and will require occasional travel.

The location of the candidate can be negotiated but ideally would be positioned in Wairau.

About the Team / Service / Location

Our team of two part-time coordinators are a well-integrated team working closely together to resource, support and educate Te Tau Ihu with the resources needed in this sensitive mahi.

Suicide prevention across the region is being addressed by many social agencies and community groups.

They are all looking to impact New Zealand's poor statistics around suicide.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide leadership and coordinate these efforts to foster relationships, establish common approaches and standards.

About you

As a

Suicide Prevention Post-vention Coordinator

, you will be a qualified / registered health / social professional with a background in health promotion, quality improvement or project management.

To succeed in this role, you will have the :

Ability to work with partner agencies to review and strengthen prevention, intervention and postvention initiatives across the health sector.

You will lead and update clear protocols and pathways that support a coordinated response across the partner agencies.

Ability and willingness to work effectively as part of a team, to maintain databases, respond to changing demographics of those self-harming and attempting suicide.

The ability to review to meet program goals and objectives.

Knowledge of complex mental health and drug and alcohol issues.

Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the health and social services sectors and ability to lead or contribute to strategic policy development on suicide prevention and postvention actions.

Experience working with people with mental illness and those at risk of suicidal behaviour.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ visa at the time of applying.
