The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our team on a permanent full-time basis.
As a Senior Underwriter at Asteron, you will lead the charge in delivering world-class underwriting services that provide certainty and confidence to clients and advisers.
Your expertise will shine as you assess and accept life and disability risks within agreed guidelines and authority levels, ensuring all decisions are timely, insightful, and aligned with our commitment to excellence.
Leveraging tele-underwriting and innovative solutions, you'll expedite decisions, maximize retention, and support Asteron's mission to remain a top-tier provider for advisers and their clients.
Beyond underwriting, you'll play a pivotal role in relationship management, cultivating trust and collaboration with key advisers and distribution channels.
Your proactive approach will include regular, meaningful contact via phone and in-person meetings, as well as close liaison with reinsurers on complex cases.
Whether consulting with medical professionals or navigating intricate risk scenarios, your ability to deliver tailored solutions will elevate Asteron's profile in the market and solidify your reputation as a trusted partner.

Your Story

To thrive in this environment ideally a candidate has the following attributes :
A minimum of 5 years Underwriting experience of life, disability and trauma risk at a Senior level
An understanding of medical terminology, disease process, treatments and prognosis
An understanding of financial and accounting matters i.e., the ability to analyse financial accounts and apply the outcome to the underwriting decisions
An understanding of the legal aspects affecting risk management i.e., Insurance Law Reform Act, Fair Trading Act, Privacy Act and Human Rights Act etc.
Knowledge of Asteron's risk products
Knowledge of Asteron's reinsurance treaties and facultative arrangements
Confidence to communicate solutions and alternatives to advisors and maintain good relationships
