The National Leader's Office (NLO) supports the National Party Leader and National Party MPs by providing communications services, research support, and general management.
We are a dynamic, forward-thinking team, working closely with our MPs and colleagues in the Prime Minister's Office and Ministerial Services.
About the role
As a Communications and Research Advisor, you will provide high-quality communications and research support to National MPs and their offices.
Daily responsibilities include :
Research issues and developments across designated portfolio areas
Monitor policy and political developments in New Zealand and overseas to inform your work
Liaise with Ministers' offices about announcements and issues requiring communications support, and provide assistance as and when needed
Produce high-quality communications material, including media releases, columns, and newsletters
Provide communications advice and support to National MPs and their offices
Develop, maintain, and implement outreach plans to help National MPs engage with communities
Qualifications / experience
Demonstrated experience in managing a wide range of stakeholder relationships at all levels
A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience
Demonstrated ability to research, understand, analyse and communicate complex issues in clear, everyday language for different audiences
Strong understanding of the media environment and different communications approaches
Strong planning, coordination and time-management skills, with the ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and prioritise effectively

The pay band for this role starts at $74,300 per annum, with appointments based on skills and experience.
Employees are employed on an 'events based' agreement, with your employment linked to the Leader of the National Party.
This role is based at the Parliamentary precinct in Wellington and for 40 hours per week.
