This position sits under the current AgResearch group of the Bioeconomy Science Institute.
We are seeking a Site Maintenance Engineer to join our Site Operations team at the Grasslands Campus in Palmerston North.
This role is critical to ensuring our site operates efficiently, safely, and sustainably — supporting the cutting-edge science that helps keep New Zealand at the forefront of global agricultural excellence.
In this role you will :
Oversee the operation, maintenance, and improvement of site facilities and infrastructure.
Manage and deliver capital works and scheduled maintenance projects.
Monitor and optimise building systems, with a strong focus on sustainability and energy efficiency.
Coordinate and supervise contractors across a range of services (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, building plant, compliance testing, and more).
Support health, safety, and legislative compliance, including after-hours emergency response on a roster basis.
Provide practical engineering support to employees and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
What you will bring to the role
A relevant qualification in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
At least 5 years' experience in site or facilities maintenance within a commercial, research, or education environment.
Strong technical knowledge across systems such as HVAC, boilers, hot water, BMS, and energy management.
Practical skills in carpentry and electrical work.
Familiarity with the Health and Safety at Work Act
Ability to manage projects, contractors, and competing priorities with initiative and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
