About Crown Property

Crown Property provides strategic leadership and oversight for Crown-owned land, with a focus on maximising these assets for the benefit of New Zealanders.

Day-to-day, We oversee the management of approximately two million hectares, encompassing surplus assets, commercial and residential properties, pastoral leases, and forestry licences

We have a newly created Wellington based Customer Regulatory Specialist role in our Crown Property Group as we take on more responsibility for land management.

It is an exciting time to join us to support Crown Property to responsibly manage and enhance the use of Crown Land for existing and future generations.

All our specialists in Crown Property work collaboratively to ensure that portfolios meet legislative and maintenance requirements.

We also work extensively with Iwi on treaty settlement properties.

About the team and role

You will be part of the team responsible for processing / triaging applications for public use of Crown Land for the Land and Waterways portfolio.

The team is tasked with managing a range of applications, including leases, renewals, and easements, supported by site inspections and regular engagement with leaseholders.

We also assist with Crown land acquisitions, including Treaty settlements, strengthening the connection between Crown Property and our stakeholders.

Additionally, the team plays a key role in providing customer information and coordinating reactive maintenance across land and waterway assets.

We are seeking a detail-oriented professional to manage the operational and administrative functions of our daily processes, while supporting senior team members.

You will bring experience from fast-paced, customer-focused environments, with a strong foundation in statutory decision-making.

This role offers opportunities to apply your problem-solving skills and deliver cost-effective, creative solutions.

A solid understanding of system workflows and business processes is essential, along with the ability to guide customers within legislative boundaries.

About you :

  • A strong understanding of government legislation encompassing national policy statements and local authority regulations.
  • An understanding of laws and regulations pertaining to land obligations, including the Resource Management Act
  • , Biosecurity Act
  • , Forests Act
  • , and relevant national policy statements, would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in stakeholder engagement and relationship building,
  • Excellent communication, and able to apply a flexible approach to your work,
  • Exceptional communication skills, coupled with the ability to adapt flexibly to varying work scenarios.
  • Hands-on experience in the operational aspects of land management within a scheduled and planned maintenance environment
  • Experience in contract administration or project management.
  • An excellent problem solver with the capacity to apply logical reasoning to multiple situations and make decisive decisions.
  • A Valid unrestricted New Zealand Drivers licence.

You may also bring :

  • Proven experience in customer service management,
  • Experience with working collaboratively with Iwi Partners
  • The expected appointing range for this role is : $85,000 - $95,000, dependant on experience.
