Operations Manager

OverviewSteel & Tube, one of New Zealand's premier steel solutions providers with over 70 years of history, is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee our Wellington Distribution Centre.

This senior role is pivotal in driving operational excellence, ensuring customer satisfaction, and leading a high-performing team in a fast-paced environment.As the Operations Manager, you'll spearhead all warehouse, logistics, and operational activities for the Wellington branch, ensuring seamless delivery of customer orders while maintaining strict compliance with quality, health, and safety standards.

You'll manage budgets, optimise efficiencies, and lead a team of supervisors and staff to achieve key performance targets.

Working closely with the Regional Manager, you'll implement national strategies, foster continuous improvement, and enhance customer experiences across all touchpoints.

This role requires strategic oversight of freight, contractor relationships, and site services, ensuring cost-effective operations and adherence to Steel & Tube's core values : United, Open, Trusted, Integrity, and Accountable.In this critical position, you'll also champion health and safety, embedding a culture of best practices across the site.

You'll drive change management initiatives, oversee compliance audits, and develop your team through coaching and training.

Your ability to build strong relationships with internal teams, customers, and external providers (including 3PL / 4PL partners) will be key to success.

If you're a proactive leader with a passion for operational excellence and a track record in warehouse management, this is your chance to make a significant impact in New Zealand's steel industry.Key ResponsibilitiesLead warehouse & logistics operations across two branches – Distribution and FastenersPlan and direct warehouse and logistics activities to meet customer fulfilment goalsEnsure compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental standardsManage budgets, control costs, and optimise labour, freight, and maintenance efficienciesLead, train, and coach operational staff to achieve best practice standardsDrive continuous improvement and change management initiativesBuild strong relationships with customers, transport providers, and service contractorsProvide monthly reporting on H&S, productivity, and customer service metricsAbout YouMinimum 7 years' hands-on warehouse operations experienceProven expertise in warehouse best practices and freight managementStrong leadership, coaching, and team management skillsExperience with continuous improvement (e.g., Lean Six Sigma) is a plusExcellent communication and relationship-building abilitiesProactive, results-driven, and committed to health and safetyWhy Join Us?
