This role offers a unique opportunity to lead the development of cutting-edge evaluation methodologies that capture the full spectrum of compliance effects, including indirect impacts such as deterrence and behaviour change.
You will lead the project, working with others while personally driving forward analytical and strategic work, reporting directly to the Chief Economist and engaging with senior stakeholders across Inland Revenue and wider government.The successful candidate will combine deep expertise in economics or econometrics with leadership capabilities.
You will develop robust methodologies to quantify the return on investment of compliance interventions, establish ongoing measurement capabilities within Inland Revenue, and provide strategic advice that shapes New Zealand's approach to tax compliance.This role requires someone who can challenge conventional thinking constructively while building strong relationships across operational teams, policy areas, and external stakeholders.This is a permanent position offering significant professional impact, and the opportunity to, over time, address wider quantification and analytical challenges.Skills required : Advanced expertise in economics, econometrics, or related analytical fieldsStrong project leadership experience with the ability to plan, coordinate and deliver complex analytical projects involving multiple stakeholdersExceptional stakeholder engagement skills, with demonstrated success building relationships across operational teams, senior leadership, and external partiesVery experienced policy thinker and future focused strategic thought leaderStrong strategic thinking ability along with proven experience solving complex issuesA 'self-starter' attitude with the initiative to develop and support strategic work across the organisationAbility to be agile and flex to considering the issues of the dayMentoring capabilities for our policy staff, both in best practice of inclusive working and in strategic thinking and influencingExcellent written and verbal communication abilities to tailor complex messagesThe ability to drive a process involving a range of stakeholders and deliver results within required timeframes.
