You will collaborate with the BusinessNZ policy team and work closely with government officials, industry experts, and other stakeholders to help develop and advocate for policies that drive economic growth, and competitiveness.
This position requires both an internal and external focus.Key Policy AreasThe successful candidate does not need to be an expert in all the policy areas you will be working on as you will learn about them on the job, but you will need have the analytical and communication skills to become knowledgeable and be influential over time.
Examples of the policy areas are below, but there can be some flexibility depending on areas of interest.TaxSmall BusinessAI / Digital Technology / TelecommunicationsRetirement Savings / KiwiSaver / Financial EducationRegulatory Frameworks / Regulatory Standards BillMerchant / Retail FeesConsumer Data Right / NZBNYou will be responsible for running and doing the analytics on a number of BusinessNZ Surveys, including the Performance of Manufacturing Index and the Performance of Services Index.Accountabilities and ResponsibilitiesYou will be accountable for leading and managing the development of BusinessNZ research, economic advice, and policy positions in your areas of policy responsibility.
A macroeconomic understanding of the economy and what the attributes of "good public policy" are will be important.You will also be responsible for advocating the policy positions you develop, in consultation with our business membership.
Advocacy requires excellent analytical skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
You will need a personality that can build rapport with all relevant stakeholders, including business members, government officials, politicians and potentially the media.Education and TrainingA relevant tertiary qualification and relevant work experience are desirable.
