Eagle SMS Transport Limited is a specialist in the logging transport industry, providing reliable and efficient haulage services from forestry sites to port locations.
We are currently seeking Class 5 Truck Drivers to join our team in Whangarei.
About the Role :
This is a physically demanding and rewarding role for a skillful Truck Driver who is confident operating in challenging forestry environments.
You will be responsible for the safe and timely transport of logs from forest blocks to mills and ports across Northland.
Key Responsibilities :
Safely operate heavy-duty log trucks to transport timber from logging sites to designated port facilities.
Navigate through unsealed forestry roads and public highways, often under varying terrain and weather conditions.
Oversee or assist with the loading and secure strapping of logs to ensure stability during transport.
Coordinate with loading machinery operators at both the forest site and port to ensure efficient transfer of logs.
Follow all relevant road transport, forestry safety, and port entry regulations.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring the truck and load meet safety standards.
Report any mechanical faults or safety concerns promptly to fleet maintenance teams.
Maintain accurate delivery records, including log weights, trip sheets, fuel use, and time logs.
Ensure correct paperwork is completed for each load delivered to the port.
Maintain regular communication with dispatch, port authorities, and supervisors to ensure smooth and timely deliveries.
Use radio, mobile, or GPS systems to report progress and receive route updates.
Drive in a manner that minimizes environmental impact, especially on forest access roads.
Comply with regional forestry and port protocols at all times.
Role Requirements :
Valid Class 5 Driver's License or ability to obtain one within 3 months
Experienced in operating vehicles with both manual and automatic transmissions (minimum 3 months).
Must be able to operate truck on dirt / track / gravel roads.
Ability to operate heavy machinery
Confident in reversing truck and trailer units
Strong knowledge of chaining and unchaining procedures
Physically fit and capable of handling manual tasks
Clean driving record and strong focus on road safety
Must pass pre-employment drug test and criminal record check
Work varied shifts including early mornings, and weekends as required
What We Offer :
Competitive hourly rate between $30 to $33 per hour.
Gauranteed minimum 30 hours of work per week
