Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) is seeking a passionate science educator or lab technician to support Arawa Secondary School (ASec) in Bougainville. This 6–12 month assignment offers a unique opportunity to share your expertise, mentor local staff and help introduce practical science learning in a region rich in culture and resilience.
ASec currently teaches science theoretically, with no hands‑on lab component. Your role will be to guide teachers in delivering practical lessons, improve safety and chemical storage practices, and foster deeper student engagement in science.
About Arawa Secondary School
Established in 1975, ASec is a day school in Central Bougainville with 800 students and 38 staff. Despite being closed for eight years during the Bougainville civil war, it has re‑emerged as one of the region’s top‑performing schools. The curriculum spans a wide range of subjects across grades 9–12.
You’ll report to the Head of Science and work closely with the Principal, Senior Subject Master, and science teachers.
