Job Description
Working an 8 / 6 roster, days only, you will manage the stability of the underground working environment through systematic data collection, geotechnical analysis, planning and underground inspections in line with the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP). This involves mitigating risk to personnel and equipment whilst allowing production targets to be met. The Underground Geotechnical Engineer function is considered a safety and production‑critical role within the mining operation.
Responsibilities
- Undertake daily inspections of the underground environment, including active headings, stopes and blast performance, installed ground support, reported hazards, new structural features and priority monitoring areas.
- Photograph and maintain a record of all stope brows and other geotechnically relevant items of interest.
- Review geological mapping and operational ground condition records daily, ensuring that identified structure and hazardous ground conditions are communicated to operations and that mitigation plans are developed and understood.
- Undertake routine geotechnical monitoring using a TARP and risk‑based priority system.
- Interpret and analyse monitoring data to identify trends, hazardous conditions and predict upcoming issues.
- Delineate, secure and manage areas of hazard with appropriate signage and restrictions.
- Conduct all required QAQC on ground support as outlined in the Ground Control Management Plan.
- Carefully review daily / weekly / monthly operational plans and Mining Instructions (MI) to ensure anticipated geotechnical conditions have been considered and that suitable mining methods and ground support has been specified.
- Install and maintain underground geotechnical monitoring systems and equipment including convergence points, Cyclops, MPBX, smart cables and LiDAR scanners, ensuring equipment is properly serviced, calibrated and maintained in a reliable condition to support critical mining functions.
- Undertake geotechnical data collection activities as required such as in‑fill structural mapping and diamond drill core logging.
Qualifications
A recognised degree in Rock Mechanics / Engineering Geology or equivalent tertiary qualification.Full and current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles.A minimum of 2 years’ experience in underground mining.Benefits
