About the Role

We are looking for physicians to provide respiratory services, including EBUS, within Northland.

While you will primarily undertake respiratory work, depending on your experience may need to undertake general medicine ward rounds on a regular basis. The role will be divided into an off-ward role where elective work is undertaken and on wards managing inpatients. The on-call rota means working some weekends throughout the year with a rostered day off after weekends.

We have several new facilities including a new Laboratory an endoscopy and cardiac catheter suite with the agreed funding for a new hospital which is currently in the planning stage.

Whangārei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services, supported by three regional hospitals in Kaitaia, Kawakawa, and Dargaville. Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres with a growing population of more than 190,000. The Department of Medicine provides acute medicine care as well as outpatient / non-acute / elective inpatient care to the Northland community.

Our department has a family feel with a positive culture, although a busy and challenging environment everyone looks after each other and has a real passion for what they do and why they do it. Teaching and mentoring our 28 medical registrars is an important part of our work. We want candidates who are team players committed to improving and developing services to meet the population need with a passion for the delivery of equitable healthcare.

As well as a warm climate, the "winterless north" offers excellent schools; affordable housing and scenic coastal areas offering a range of recreational activities. We are just a two hours' drive or 25-minute flight from the international hub of Auckland.
