Shama, Ethnic Women's Trust is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and motivated youth worker to deliver the Ethnic Youth Explorer programme to ethnic young people between the age range of
The Ethnic Youth Explorer programme provides a safe space for isolated ethnic youth to enhance their well-being by developing friendships, learning new skills, strengthening their identity and contributing to the community.
Youth engagement and development activities take place monthly, with an additional monthly online session for meet and greet.
The youth worker will be responsible for planning, delivering, and reporting the youth-led designed activities within the programme.
The role also involves providing support to young people and referring them to relevant services when needed.
Key responsibilities :
Working with Shama's community development lead and the young people to design the activities for youth.
Promoting the programme in different ethnic communities and communicating with young people to participate and to get involved in the programmes.
Coordinating and delivering the youth programme safely, effectively and efficiently.
Preparing and submitting monthly reports and project reports on time.
Design and deliver programmes, activities, and initiatives that meet the needs and interests of the ethnic youths.
Coordinate and facilitate youth programmes, including workshops, community engagement, and at least one overnight camp per year.
Networking and maintaining good relations with other service providers and stakeholders.
Key requirements :
Have a strong understanding of the experience of ethnic youth from a range of backgrounds living in New Zealand.
Has well developed written and verbal communication skills using English.
Has the necessary immigration status and documentation to work in New Zealand.
Has computer skills, and actively uses social media.
Ability to speak 1 or 2 ethnic languages will be an advantage.
Full NZ drivers Licence will be an advantage.
