We are currently seeking an expert knowledgeable in fluvial geomorphology, gravel resources, sediment budgets and sediment transport, to join us as our new fluvial scientist. Beyond the usual state of the environment monitoring and reporting, you will be contributing to cutting-edge regional and national research programmes to inform decision-making around the health and wellbeing of the region’s natural environment.
Based in our Palmerston North office, this permanent, full-time role will have you working alongside a team of scientists, hydrologists, river engineers and data analysts to help develop, implement and lead a science programme that supports policy development, implementation and informs responses to environmental issues across this large and diverse region. On the job training will be provided for the right candidate.
About you
Suitable candidates should hold a degree in an appropriate natural science discipline (e.g. fluvial geomorphology, sediment transport processes, environmental science), with preferred candidates holding a postgraduate degree or equivalent experience. Previous working experience in freshwater science, geomorphology, and the Resource Management Act will be advantageous, as would skills and experience in project management, data analysis and reporting, and an ability to communicate scientific information in an engaging and informative way.
