The ideal candidate will be a graduate who collaborates and engages with the team, in alignment with OceanaGold's Purpose, Vision and Values.
Macraes is the largest mine in NZ, employing over 650 people, offering lots of long-term career growth opportunities.Initially this role will work an 8 days on, 6 days off, 7 nights on, 7 days off roster based in the Macraes Underground Geology department (approximately 9-12 months), before moving to either the Open Pit or Exploration areas of the Macraes operation.
The primary function is to collect geological information via sampling, mapping, core and rock chip logging to be used for ore / resource delineation and / or the optimisation of ore extraction.Key ResponsibilitiesHelp in the identification and classification of ore zonesAssist in the review of stope and ore drive plansSupport the underground GC drillingUndertake sampling of stope ore and underground ROM padHelping to ensure haulage is designated correctly according to gradeAssisting the underground production geologist as neededLearn to monitor development headings and stope productionAssisting with geological mapping, trenching and samplingDevelop skills to direct the excavator within the ore zone (ore spotting)Assist with interpretation of the ore bodyPrepare, log and sample coreFollow all SOPs specified for equipment or tasks and be involved in the development and review / revision of procedures when requiredQualificationsFull Class 1 Driver's LicenseA degree in geology or other relevant earth sciencesFirst Aid Certificate beneficialPrevious experience in an open pit or underground environment desirableIntermediate computer literacy including experience in mining software and databases preferredAdditional InformationResidential role, live and work in the stunning region of Otago, NZ.8 on, 6 off, 7 on, 7 off (day / night) 12hr shift rosterCompetitive salary + bonusesDiscounts on retail and servicesFree Southern Cross Healthcare and Life InsuranceLong service recognitionLiving Our Values recognition programFree transport to workStudy assistanceAccess to OceanaGold Employee Assistance Program (EAP)Exceptional working environment where people are valued and respectedApplications close 17 October 2025.
