Senior Medical Officer- Gastroenterologist, Waikato

Permanent 0.6-1.0 FTE (30 hours + / - per week)Join a leading team delivering advanced, patient-focused gastroenterology careWe are looking for a Specialist Gastroenterologist to join our highly skilled, multidisciplinary team at Waikato Hospital; the largest gastroenterology service in the Central North Island, offering advanced procedures, specialist clinics, and opportunities for research and teaching.

About the Role

In this role, youll be an integral part of our departments daily operations, contributing to clinics, endoscopy, and ward duties, along with participating in the on-call roster.

Beyond the clinical work, theres a real opportunity to shape the futurethrough teaching, ongoing medical education, and quality improvement initiatives.

Were particularly keen to hear from those with a subspecialty interest in inflammatory bowel disease, as we continue to respond to the growing needs of this community.

Equally, expertise in general gastroenterology and hepatology would be highly valued.

The salary for this position will be based on experience and in line with the ASMS SECA agreement.

About the Team / Service

Our team consists of 8 permanent Gastroenterologists, Specialists Nurses in Hepatology and Inflammatory Bowel Disease and a Nurse Endoscopist.

We have two advanced trainees and one fellow as part of the national training scheme.

We offer comprehensive Gastroenterology services at Waikato, including :

Acute inpatient service for hepatology and IBD patientsAcute endoscopy serviceSpecialist hepatology and IBD clinics (including Fibroscan and intestinal ultrasound)General gastroenterology clinicsClinical trial unit and opportunities for investigator led researchContributions to medical student, physician and gastroenterology training pathwaysWe are the largest service in the Central North Island and provide support and tertiary services for surrounding hospitals.

About You

Required skills & experience you will need to be consider for this role :

Possess specific clinical skills in endoscopic procedures essentialRegistered with the New Zealand Medical Council (or have qualification that are immediately registerable) and have appropriate postgraduate qualifications
