About the role

Te Ara Hihiri is a programmedesigned to support the development of literacy and numeracy skills forpeople in prison in Aotearoa. Classes are small, capped at 6 tauira perclass. Reporting to one of our regionalmanagers, you’ll work closely with Ara Poutama / Department of Corrections’staff who will provide you with training, advice, and support.

  • Contract :   Casual Basis
  • Location :   Across : Mt Eden Corrections Facility, Auckland Region Women's Correction Facility and Auckland Prison
  • Hourly Rate :  $ - $ plus 8% holiday pay
  • Hours :  As required
  • Days :   As required

As an inspiring Kaiako, yourresponsibilities will include :

  • Teachingtauira who have been assessed at step 1 or 2 on the Literacy and Numeracy forAdult Assessment Tool to develop their capability.
  • Developinglearning and lesson plans tailored to the needs of each tauira.
  • Contributingto the development of teaching resources.
  • Maintainingrecords of tauira assessment results, attendance, progress, and feedback.
  • Ensuringcompliance to regulatory and contractual requirements.

    We ‘re looking for someone who has thefollowing :

  • Ateaching or training background.
  • NationalCertificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Vocational) - Level 5.
  • Goodknowledge of te reo / tikanga Māori ((Level 2 or above), or a willingness tolearn.
  • A fullNZ driver’s license.
  • Experiencewith foundation learners an advantage.
  • Theability to pass Police Vetting is essential to ensure access to prisonfacilities.
  • If you have teaching or trainingexperience, we can support you to undertake additional study / training to meetthe other role requirements.
