GeneralMedicine Department at Timaru Hospital

Currently we are a team of nineinternal medicine specialist, with some of the team having an additionalsub-specialty qualification or interest, that currently includes Neurology,Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Nephrology & Cardiology.

This allows for each member ofthe team to practice, or upskill if needed,in an area of their interest.This we believe adds to job satisfaction, as well as delivering a valuableadditional service to the community. We also have a unique part time model,that enables part timers to take their time off in blocks of weeks, instead ofdays.

We are keen to expand the rangeand depth of these services and are looking for people, who in addition totheir internal medicine and acute medicine skills, might like to practice orupskill in internal medicine subspecialities like gastroenterology,endocrinology(diabetes), rheumatology, cardiology, hematology or similar.

Equally if you have an additionalinterest in Geriatric Medicine, we have opportunities that may suit.

Te Whatu Ora- South Canterburyis responsible for thedelivery of services throughout the South Canterbury region and Timaru Hospital (131beds) serves a district population of approximately 50,000 based in a GeneralHospital Facility, (which has just commenced a significant refurbishmentprogramme), providing our local community with such critical 24 / 7 services asA&E, ICU / CCU, General, Orthopaedic, & ENT Surgery, O&G, Psychiatry,Paediatrics, Geriatrics, Oncology & Palliative Care, plus of courseInternal Medicine.
