About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife, with a passion for assisting whanau in navigating the pregnancy journey, to join our Rural team. With accommodation available it is a unique opportunity to have a Rural Midwifery experience in a supportive environment.
In this role you will be :
Providing postnatal care to inpatients. i.e. breastfeeding support, education, emotional support, monitoring of vitals according to care plans and ensuring all observations are within the normal range. Postnatal stays are typically 2 nights but this can be extended for those requiring additional support.Providing midwifery care for acute presentations. It may be labour and birth care, CTG monitoring, assessing the pregnancy of someone who has presented to ED with a non-pregnancy related issue.Providing support for LMC midwives during a labour, in an emergency or care for someone who is labouring / birthing when the LMC is not present.Providing antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care for those who have been unable to book with an LMC.Managing referrals to Waikato Hospital.Ensuring that the unit is well stocked and running smoothly.Performing administrative tasks in the absence of the admin staff.About the Team
Tokoroa Maternity Unit supports whanau in the community at a very special time in their lives. With around 100 births per year we offer a service that covers Tokoroa and surrounding Rural Towns.
Together with the LMC practice in the area, you will provide support to the whanau that utilise our service with midwifery knowledge and skills. We are a small supportive team with a specially designed birthing unit to meet the needs of our community. As a solely staffed unit we have the Hospital ED staff to support us in times of need.
About you
Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.Experience in upholding Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.Registration with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and hold a current annual practising certificate.Have an up to date portfolio providing evidence of participation in the Midwifery Council’s recertification programme.Committment to ongoing education and development.Ability to work collaboratively within a team.Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Hold a clean full New Zealand driver licence.Working for Health New Zealand
