Principal Advisor - Building

About the role

As the Principal Advisor Building, you will be a natural leader, adept at sharing your expertise and fostering the growth of our team's capabilities to meet the needs of the expanding district.

As a key member of the Building Team, your primary focus will be on providing expert advice and documenting technical decisions where necessary, with a strong emphasis on ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence the continuous improvement of our process and procedures.

Responsibilities

Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external customers.

Lead or contribute to project work as a subject matter expert, representing the building team and Council on various projects.

Investigate issues and document technical decisions, sharing findings with the team and stakeholders.

Engage with professionals in the construction sector through networking and industry meetings.

About you

You will be an experienced technical leader with at least 10 years\' experience in building processes and statutory compliance.

With excellent analytical and coaching skills, you will play a key role in growing, developing, and supporting our team.

Your ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and customers will be crucial to your success in this role.

Experience working in a government role or local authority.

Ability to make informed decisions on building code performance clauses using sound judgment, thorough research, and clear reporting.

Demonstrate a strong understanding and application of the Building Act, Building Regulations, NZ Building Code, standards, and relevant specifications.
