Mo te tunga | About the role

The New Zealand Police are on the lookout for a Communications Advisor to join our Strategic Communications Team.

We'd love to hear from you if you are curious, politically aware, have a keen eye for detail and ready to roll your sleeves up.

This would be a great role for a recent graduate or someone early in their career who would like to learn more about the inner workings of large government agencies and that understands the importance of strong, clear communication.

You will support the team with a wide range of internal and external communication activities as well as honing your stakeholder engagement skills.

In addition to managing communications processes for workgroups, you'll develop media responses, assist the team with writing, editing, and reviewing content, and lead our team in implementing systems, processes, reporting and admin – you'll be the glue that keeps the team together!

Key Accountabilities :

  • Use multiple channels to deliver messaging and information to the community, police staff and key stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of communications strategies.
  • Develop and maintain networks with peers in partner agencies and other public sector organisations.
  • Help ensure any areas of potential risk to Police's image and reputation with external stakeholders and the general public are identified.
  • He aha taau e kawe mai | What you'll bring

Whilst we are looking for skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the role, we also place high importance on your state of mind, the alignment of your values with ours, your ability to contribute to a high performing team, and the way that you lead yourself or others.

    We're looking for :

  • A strong communicator with a relevant tertiary qualification or experience (communications, media, public relations, political science).
  • Somone with an eye for detail and a willingness to own the admin tasks (Teams and Microsoft suite).
  • The ability to read the room – politically aware, discreet, and thoughtful.
  • A team player who's keen to learn, not afraid to ask questions or give things a go.
  • Can handle a fast paced, sometimes high-pressure environment.
  • Someone who can bring their whole self to work - we value diversity of thought and authenticity.
  • Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements
