An exciting opportunity has become available for a Coach Development Leader to join our team. This role is responsible for leading the growth, education, and support of rugby coaches across Taranaki. The successful candidate will deliver quality development programs, provide guidance and resources, and help strengthen the coaching pathway to ensure a positive experience for all participants.

Job Purpose
- Support all Community Coaches, this includes but is not limited to Senior coaches, Secondary School coaches and Ferdie coaches.
- Implement coach development tools, ensuring local delivery is aligned to best practice.
- Coordinate and deliver coaching workshops, practical sessions, and on-the-ground support to meet local needs.
- Ensure all coaches in Taranaki are registered.
- Ensure all registered coaches of players in all grades complete annual Small Blacks and / or Rugby Smart accreditation.
- Ensure 100% of registered teams have at least one assigned RugbySmart or Small Blacks accredited coach.
- Deliver World Rugby accredited coaching development programmes annually.
- Develop and facilitate a yearly coaching calendar that outlines the initiatives planned for the calendar year.
- Develop a coach pathway / framework to show the systems / support provided for all coaches.
- Develop a female coaching focus / target group, who are provided with support and development to progress through the coach pathway / framework.
- Administer 'The Coaching Gig' app and any other coaching resources / tools as required.
- Create quality coach development content.
- Create coaching session templates for different age groups.
- Provide quality coaching sessions to coaches and players.
- Ensure all players and coaches have access to quality training and coaching resources.
- Ensure all TRFU CRDO's / Game Development / Participation staff are up-to-date with current coaching practices.
- Manage the TRFU Coach database and ensure it is up to date and holds all relevant information to enable regular contact with registered coaches.
- Promote and implement NZR and TRFU policies to enhance coach education.
- Co-ordinate workshops based on games identities, culture and planning for example - front row sessions, tight 5 workshops, skills and kicking workshops, planning and preparation workshops and contact workshops to provide continuous professional development opportunities for coaches.
- Ensure coaches are provided with constant communication and have opportunities to provide feedback, suggestions and or issues.
- Ensure Taranaki has a range of coaches to service the diverse community.
- Support with the appointment / review of TRFU Rep Coaches. Inparticular with our junior representative campaigns and ensuring these programs run effectively.
Skills, experience and education
Preferred : Level 1, Level 2 and / or Level 3 World Rugby Coaching Certificate or equivalent.Technical Skills, Knowledge and Experience in relation to rugby.A strong strategic and technical understanding of the game of rugby.A detailed understanding of the rules and how they are currently being applied by referees.Analytical skills in relation to assessment of skill & performance, including proven use of technology.Willing and able to learn new systems.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong interpersonal communication skills.Skilled at effective conflict identification and resolution.Leadership and people management skills.Proven ability to motivate all players.Empathy and understanding of an individual\'s need regardless of background and ethnicity.Skilled at building and using a wide network of technical experts.Experience in assessing and managing performance - particularly giving feedback.Counselling skills - the ability to listen effectively and to provide appropriate direction and support.Knows when it is appropriate to seek more qualified / expert assistance.Strong time management and organization skills.Demonstrated and proven success in developing a vibrant and supportive winning team culture.Builds effective working relationships with colleagues.Works hard to resolve conflict and promote harmonious team dynamics.Readily and willingly shares information and supports the work of others.Applications close on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, or earlier if a suitable candidate is appointed.
