The team provides advice, support, dispute resolution, civil litigation, prosecution and tax technical services for a broad range of customers across Inland Revenue.As a Solicitor in the Advice / Technical Standards workstream you would primarily work on tax technical or social policy matters. This may include drafting opinions, public statements, dispute documents or binding rulings and representing the Commissioner in disputes.

- In this role you will do the following :
- Bring the right mix of knowledge and experience to take the lead, make decisions, and provide advice on complex, controversial or strategically significant tax issues
- Coach and mentor junior colleagues - working with them to develop their skills and build their confidence
- Take a system-wide view and collaborate across Inland Revenue to identify development opportunities and to build organisational capability
- Work in a networked way to develop innovative solutions for internal customers
- Provide leadership as part of a solutions-focused team recognised for providing high levels of customer service
- Contribute to the initiatives of the wider Legal Services teamThe salary range for the role is $128,990 - $172,780 based on a standard 37-hour 55-minute work week. The salary offered to successful candidates will be based on skills and experience assessed from the application and interview process.

- We are looking for someone who :
- is qualified to practise law in New Zealand and has, or is eligible to obtain, a New Zealand Law Society practising certificate
- has specific areas of deep expertise, while also having extensive knowledge and experience dealing with a wide range of income tax, GST or social policy matters
- combines a high level of knowledge and expertise with a track record of delivery on complex tax technical or social policy issues
- has excellent research and document drafting skills
- has good communication skills and the ability to explain complex information in a clear and concise way
- is comfortable working closely with others as a trusted business partner to achieve customer goals and manage risk for Inland Revenue
- is able to lead initiatives to achieve the right customer outcomes and support long-term compliance
- can act as a point of escalation for complex cases to support risk management, integrity of advice and capability uplift
- is able to identify and understand strategic compliance risks and contribute to the development of policies and strategies to protect the tax base
- has a collaborative working style, can build effective relationships, and is happy to be part of a team who support and rely on one another
- is confident and capable at managing their own workload.
