    Woolworths NZ is transforming to make Kiwis lives better everyday. Our internal wiq (Woolworths and Quantium) Advanced Analytics team is focused on helping to rapidly drive this change by unlocking the power of data to reimagine retail.

    About the Role | Mō te Tūranga

    As the wiqNZ Data Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of ~10 data engineers and work in close collaboration with the wiqNZ analytics domain teams to design, develop, implement and scale the WWNZ data platform and Advanced Analytics solutions using predominantly Google Cloud (GCP) products. This work is done in multidisciplinary teams in close partnership with Architects, Data Scientists and Analysts, with engineers having the primary responsibility for productionising and scaling solutions.

    You will help to guide a shift to a Group-first data mindset across all areas, including platform alignment, to support the value and innovation unlock of operating as a Group, supporting the continuous improvement of technical capabilities in wiqNZ, as well as building a talent pipeline and future leaders.

    Key responsibilities include :

    • Lead, coach and support the wiqNZ Data Engineering team to deliver their responsibilities and work collaboratively together within NZ and with peers in Group, as well as being hands-on and executing them directly where appropriate for larger, more complex projects.
    • Collaborate closely with your peers in Australia to support and drive improved data governance across the organisation
    • Design / Develop Cloud based data pipelines / apps / ML models to solve a broad range of business problems.
    • Participate as a contributor to Agile Squads, sharing your knowledge and contributing from your own subject matter expertise, but also inputting and taking on any appropriate multidisciplinary tasks to help the squad succeed.

      We are seeking a highly skilled individual with a diverse range of expertise to join our team. Our ideal candidate will excel in problem-solving, breaking down complex challenges into actionable components, and developing practical solutions while adhering to the principle of simplicity. A demonstrable track record in Cloud, Data, Application, or Machine Learning engineering is essential, with proficiency in contemporary coding practices (., DevOps, MLOps, CI / CD) and deep technical knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), preferably holding certification as a Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer.

      Hands-on experience with databases, data manipulation, and performance optimisation is essential, alongside familiarity with Enterprise Architecture and data transformation initiatives. Knowledge of container technologies, microservices, and strong ETL experience using tools like DBT, Airflow, and Pandas is preferred.

      As this role has a team leadership component, you will have a proven track record in developing and mentoring team members, fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.
