We have the opportunity to join the Youth Justice team of Rotorua at our Te Kohanga Remand Home as a Casual Residential Youth Worker.
What is Te Kohanga Remand Home? It is a restorative group home, working with rangatahi aged 14 to 17 who are on remand in their processes with the Youth Court. This home operates 24 / 7, 365 days a week in tandem with the Te Maioha Youth Justice facility. We offer a variety of interesting, educational, and fun activity programmes for our young people while they stay with us. A few examples of the activities we offer might include cooking classes, gaming and sports tournaments, vocational and cultural demonstrations, and lessons with leaders from the local community and much more!

Our Residential Youth Workers enrich the lives of our tamariki and maximise learning opportunities and engagement with positive role models. They work alongside our partners to build high-trust relationships and help tamariki develop the skills, behaviours, and attitude they will need to meaningfully contribute to their whānau and their community. They understand that the causes of offending are complex, and that successfully dealing with young offenders demands action beyond simple punitive measures.

As a Casual, you will be required to cover the shifts of our Residential Youth Workers. This is not a 9 to 5 job - the successful candidate would be required to provide cover as and when required to support our permanent Residential Youth Workers staff and you could be asked to work any day of the week from Monday to Sunday, including Public Holidays.

In this role you need to have the right to work in New Zealand, either as a NZ citizen or permanent resident, or by holding a valid work visa. You also need to have a full, clean New Zealand driver's license as you will be required to drive as part of your job. You will also need to be able to meet the safety checking and police vetting requirements required under the Children's Act.
