Job description

Intake Clinician For Child and Adolescent Mental Health Kapiti Services

Location : Kapiti Health Centre, Warrimoo Street, Paraparaumu

Contract : Part Time (0.6FTE), Permanent

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders.

Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

In this dynamic role, you will provide triage / intake assessment for children, adolescents, and their families or caregivers.

You'll work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing your expertise to ensure holistic and culturally responsive care.

Your role will also involve consultation and liaison with external services and agencies, helping to build strong, supportive networks around our young people.

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, you'll contribute to both clinical and service development initiatives, bringing your insights and ideas to shape the future of our service.

Education and information-sharing are also key elements of this position – you'll provide guidance and support to external agencies, as well as empowering tamariki, rangatahi and their whanau with the knowledge they need to navigate their mental health journey.

About the Team / Service Location

Join our small, supportive Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service team based in sunny Kapiti, where we pride ourselves on working closely with NGOs, schools, and the wider community to make a real difference for tamariki and rangatahi.

Kapiti CAMHS utilises the Choice and Partnership Approach (CAPA) to provide efficient accessible services for tamariki, rangatahi, and their whanau.

About you

Relevant qualification in mental health, nursing, social work or occupational therapy, with current professional registration in New Zealand.

A good sense of humour and a team spirit are definite advantages in this rewarding role.

Experience working with children, adolescents, and their whanau in a mental health setting.

Strong assessment, risk management, and therapeutic intervention skills.

Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and alongside community partners.

Excellent communication skills, written and verbal; cultural competency, and commitment to working in partnership with Maori and Pacific communities.

Understanding and commitment to work within the CAPA model.
