We're seeking an experienced emergency operations professional to join our team as Group Operations Manager.
This key role sits within WREMO's Operational Readiness and Response team and reports to the Team Leader, Regional Incident Management.This position is fixed term for two years, based at our Thorndon office in Wellington.About the role : As the Group Operations Manager within the Regional Incident Management Team, you'll provide strategic and operational leadership to strengthen local and regional readiness and response.
You'll lead improvements in operational systems, processes, and capability - ensuring the region can effectively coordinate large-scale, multi-agency responses.You'll also support the lifelines sector, ensuring strong relationships and coordination mechanisms are in place to maintain essential services and infrastructure during emergencies.In readiness, you'll help design and deliver improvements in operational frameworks and ensure facilities, plans, and systems are fit for purpose.
In response, you'll lead the Operations function in the Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) or support Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) to deliver effective, coordinated, on-the-ground operations that keep communities safe.Skills and experience required : You're a confident, strategic communicator with strong leadership and crisis management experience.
You can think clearly under pressure, craft clear messages in complex situations, and build trusted relationships across diverse networks.You will have : Experience leading or supporting operational functions in emergency or major incident responses.Strong situational awareness, able to quickly assess needs and coordinate effective actions during dynamic events.Skilled in resourcing, prioritisation, and coordination to achieve desired operational outcomes.Deep understanding of the CDEM Operations function, including how to coordinate and manage complex, multi-agency responses.Demonstrated ability to apply the 4Rs (Reduction, Readiness, Response, Recovery) framework to strengthen operational effectiveness.Skilled in operational planning, situational coordination, and leading operational response activities in real-time.Ability to support and advise EOCs to ensure alignment with regional and national response priorities.Willingness to be part of an on-call roster and respond to emergencies when required.Relevant tertiary qualification in emergency management, public safety, operations, or related field.Experience in local or central government emergency management operations.Strong analytical and decision-making skills under time pressure.Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills across all levels.Understanding of, or willingness to develop, capability in te reo Maori and te ao Maori, in line with Greater Wellington's Maori Capability Framework.What we offer : Work to suit your life and whanau with our flexible working policy.We'll encourage you to grow and prosper with a range of learning and development opportunities, internal secondments and career progression.Your wellbeing is our priority - we'll provide medical and trauma insurance support through our employee assistance programme, including Rongoa Maori partner providers, generous annual and sick leave, along with Tangihanga leave and support.We want you to have a sense of belonging, where you can reflect your personal and cultural identity in the way that you work.Social clubs, staff networks and a friendly and inclusive culture.How to apply : Greater Wellington and WREMO are proud members of Diversity Works.

However, we will be shortlisting applications as they come in and will interview as soon as possible to secure the right person.The remuneration for this position, inclusive of all benefits, is $99,271 to $148,907, with a midpoint of $124,089.
Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
