About the Role

The Principal Analyst will be part of a wider team of senior and principal analysts tasked with providing statistical analytical support to the commissioning teams.

Principal analysts are responsible for leading on a wide range of health insights & investment analysis to national and regional teams, providing input into service design and development early in the process to ensure analytical requirements are well informed and interpreted, and ensuring health insights analysis focus on health equity for Māori, as well as equity across other population groups.

The principal analyst will play a key role in enabling the Primary, Community and Mental Health teams to make data-driven decisions that improve health outcomes for people. Depending on which team they serve, they will lead on a wide range of analytical business support needs including investment planning, cost modelling, investment planning, health insights and / or performance and monitoring support. They will also play a strong mentorship across other analysts within the wider national analytical function, supporting the capacity and capability of analysts to grow their skill sets across teams.

About you

You bring 5–10 years of experience in scoping, collecting, analysing, forecasting, and presenting health or health investment insights. Skilled in applying quantitative statistical methods, frameworks, and tools, you turn complex data into meaningful and actionable insights. You have a high level of proficiency in one or more business intelligence and data visualisation applications, such as Power BI, SQL, or Excel.

You are able to translate analytical results into compelling narratives with a strong focus on equity, and you have experience writing clear business requirements documents and technical specifications for reports. Your collaborative approach means you can develop, maintain, and influence relationships across sectors and organisations, including with Māori and Pacific Peoples and groups, ensuring insights are both robust and inclusive.
