Corporate Accountant

About the Role

Stratford District Council is recruiting for a Corporate Accountant to join the team.

As our Corporate Accountant, you will be the financial backbone of Council.

Responsible for leading and preparing all aspects of financial reporting for Council including the financial components of the Long Term Plan, Annual Plan, Annual Report and monthly management reporting.

You will also provide strategic financial advice, supervise financial transactions, support and mentor finance staff, and ensure the integrity and continuous improvement of Council's financial systems.

This position is part time (30 hours per week) and is located at the Stratford District Council, Miranda Street, Stratford.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $130,000 per annum (FTE) with the appointed starting level dependent on the skills and experience of the candidate.

About You

You're a qualified accounting professional with a knack for leadership, a sharp eye for detail, and a passion for public service.

With at least five years of financial experience – ideally in local government – you bring technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a collaborative spirit.

You're confident managing financial systems, reporting, and compliance, and you thrive on building strong relationships across all levels of an organisation.

Your ability to lead, mentor, and communicate clearly makes you a trusted advisor and a valued team member.
