Community Support Worker - Residential

Full-Time - 40 hours per week

$23.50-$29.10

Titahi Bay location We currently have roles with our children's respite house at Spectrum Care covering early mornings, after school, evenings and weekends. We're looking for team members to help kids and teenagers with intellectual disabilities to feel safe and have fun while staying at our respite house inTitahi Bay. You will need to know how to liven things up, and calm things down, to notice how children are feeling, and to provide them with guidance, comfort or support as needed. You will need to be vigilant, warm, and creative. Additionally, as the children have a vast range of communication styles, an ability or interest in learning to find effective ways to communicate is very much preferred.

Skills & Experience

• Empathy for the challenges of trying to build an ordinary life while living with a disability
• Energy to keep up with someone who likes to be on the go a lot
• Ability to remain calm, and calming, in all situations
• Resilience to help people keep boundaries to ensure their safety
• Good at explaining and negotiating
• Ability to communicate effectively and supportively with family, colleagues and the person you support
• Ability and willingness to provide support and motivation with personal cares and daily living skills
