About the role

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children / tamariki, youth / rangatahi, and their family / whānau? We have an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic Te Waipounamu West Coast regional team as a Public Health Nurse.

This permanent, full-time position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively within the team and community partners to deliver high-quality child / adolescent and their whānau services which include health assessments and case load management (mainly for continence). In addition, pre-school and school-based teacher support in the area of health / wellness as well as delivery of the school immunisation programme. You will play a key role in supporting individuals, whānau, and communities to achieve their best possible health and wellbeing.

The Public Health Nurse is a registered nurse and will practice in accordance with the Nursing Council of New Zealand Code of Conduct and competencies for a Registered Nurse.

About the Team / Service / Location

You'll be joining a passionate and supportive Public Health Nursing team that is part of the National Public Health Service (NPHS), working collectively to promote health, protect communities, and advance equity across this rural region.

About you

You understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and are skilled in applying its principles effectively in your role. You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels and model an agile approach, you learn quickly, adapt fast. You can utilise advanced nursing knowledge and skills through reflective practice, critical thinking and professional judgement to provide competent care and advice while working to top of scope.

  • Current registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand as Registered Nurse and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate
  • Clinical experience, in child and whānau health
  • Authorised Vaccinator is preferred
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise and clinical judgement, particularly when working with children and adolescents
  • Hold a minimum of a competent portfolio in an approved PDRP or equivalent with a commitment to continue through the programme
  • Ability to work within a team and autonomously
  • Proven experience and competence using Patient Management Systems
  • An eye for detail and commitment for continuous quality improvement
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Full, clean New Zealand drivers licence
  • With the support of Health NZ, you will proactively take care of your own health and safety, to ensure a safe and supportive work environment
