With over 90 Op Shops across New Zealand, we give second-hand goods a new life and every purchase helps rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need.ABOUT THE ROLEWe have an exciting opportunity at our Hawera SPCA Op Shop for a : Part-Time Op Shop AssistantSaturday shift8 : 45am to 2 : 15pm (5hrs) as well as availability to pick up other shifts as required to cover leave, busy periods, and weekendsKey ResponsibilitiesWork sole charge on rostered days, taking full responsibility for daily shop operations.Receive, sort, price, and merchandise donated goods in line with SPCA guidelines.Ensure the shop is clean, welcoming, and well-stocked throughout the day.Serve customers with warmth and professionalism, promoting positive donor and shopper experiences.Accurately process sales and cash handling, including end-of-day reconciliation.Provide cover and basic team supervision in the manager's absence.Help support and guide volunteers in their roles.Ensure health & safety and SPCA procedures are followed.You're enthusiastic, adaptable, and enjoy variety in your work.

Whether you're sorting stock, helping customers, or stepping in for a shift at short notice, you're always ready to help and happy to be part of a cause that makes a real difference for animals.Skills & ExperienceRetail or customer service experience (charity retail a bonus).

Confident working sole charge and making operational decisions when required.Able to work flexibly across the shop floor, till, and sorting area.Confident communicator who enjoys helping others.Reliable, organised, and proactive with good attention to detail.Comfortable working in a team and independently.Physically fit and able to lift / move stock as required.SPCA PURRRKSAt SPCA, working with purpose is just the beginning.
