Lead SRE needed for a global AWS / EKS platform.
Mentor a team, automate everything, and solve complex problems in a top Kiwi tech co.
Why You'd Like It
Are you an SRE who enjoys mentoring just as much as you enjoy automating?
This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a lead position within an autonomous team, looking after a massive, global AWS platform.
You won't just be firefighting; you'll be building the tools and systems that enable the wider engineering department to innovate safely and at speed.
It's a complex, challenging environment perfect for someone who loves solving interesting technology problems.
The Story
This isn't a new role, but rather a crucial one for a company that relies 100% on its platform's performance.
As they continue to scale their global SaaS offering, the Platform Engineering team is central to that success.
They need a senior head to help guide the team, contribute heavily to solution design, and ensure the entire system—from a complex event-processing backend to the CI / CD pipeline— is efficient, stable, and cost effective.
Your Role
Taking a lead role in the team, mentoring your teammates, and contributing heavily to solution design and operation.
Ensuring the global AWS-based platform is running at peak efficiency, performance, and uptime.
Building and refining monitoring, alerting, and CI / CD deployment tools.
Diving deep into complex faults to find the root cause, working across teams to implement permanent fixes and improvements.
Identifying and automating tasks wherever possible to maintain and increase efficiency.
Helping to manage and optimise cloud costs across the AWS infrastructure.
Participating in an on-call roster to ensure platform services are operating effectively.
Your Fit
Deep experience with public cloud, specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Strong skills with Kubernetes (especially EKS) and Infrastructure as Code (like Terraform).
A background in building or managing CI / CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
Proven experience operating and managing complex, distributed systems in production web environments.
Solid scripting ability (e.g., Python, Bash).
A quality-obsessed and curious mindset, with a genuine enjoyment for solving tricky problems.
A natural ability to collaborate, with excellent communication skills and a desire to mentor teammates.
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
If you are not a NZ Citizen, you must have the right of permanent residence or a valid work visa.
