AUT is seeking a dedicated and experienced New Zealand registered primary teacher to join our team at the Refugee Education Centre.
This is a unique opportunity to support newly arrived former refugee children during their initial five-week orientation programme in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The education programme operates in five-week cycles aligned with refugee intakes.
The role is full-time and permanent.
A key focus of this role is to prepare students for successful transition into New Zealand school life, equipping them with the foundational skills, confidence, and cultural understanding needed to thrive in their new learning environments.
This role aligns with AUT's strategic vision, Te Kete, which champions equity, inclusion, and enriching lives through learning.
You'll be part of a passionate, supportive team making a real difference in the lives of tamariki and whanau from refugee backgrounds.
Deliver inclusive, engaging, and culturally responsive teaching.
Prepare students for successful integration into New Zealand schools.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support student learning and wellbeing.
Create a safe, welcoming environment for children from diverse backgrounds.
You will be a flexible, empathetic educator with :
Current NZ teacher registration and primary teaching qualification.
A strong understanding of ESOL principles (qualification desirable).
Experience working with former refugees, migrants, or learners with additional needs.
Knowledge of a second or third language (advantageous).
