WARC was set up in 1977 by a group of like-minded people concerned at the large amounts of valuable materials being dumped in landfills, when they could be reused and repurposed.
We are a community-led charity run by amazing volunteers.
Our centre is based in the suburb of New Lynn in Auckland, and is open for the public to collect and repurpose.This role includes : Opening and closing the centreInteracting with visitors and making them feel welcomeInforming new visitors about how the centre operatesProcessing donations into the centreAll volunteers will be inducted into the new role by our Volunteer Coordinator.
The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for training and ongoing support.
By the end of the induction, volunteers will know our health and safety policies and have a basic understanding of how the centre runs.
They will then be rostered on alongside experienced volunteers to learn from.Requirements : Strong communication skills, as you will spend most of your time greeting and talking to visitorsCreative thinker in regards to how resources can be reused and displayedDeep satisfaction in organising and ordering resourcesAn interest in waste management and protecting our whenuaBenefits to this volunteer role will include : Working alongside other passionate volunteers who are dedicated to giving back to the community and diverting waste from landfillExperience working in a shop and dealing with customersDeep feeling of satisfaction in working towards creating a more sustainable worldA centre full of treasures ready to be created withTime commitment : We are open Saturday 10 AM - 1 PM and Wednesday 12 PM - 2 PM, and closed over school holidays.
Volunteers can choose which day they work when we are open, how many times they would like to work in a term, and if they would like to do a full shift or half a shift.
