As a Specialist Advisor, you won't just be an observer, you'll be right at the frontline, translating innovation into influence, and influence into action.

This is high-stakes work that requires political savvy, strategic sharpness, and the ability to win hearts and minds across diverse communities, funders, and decision-makers.

You'll be expected to take evidence, insights, and bold ideas, then shape them into compelling strategies, campaigns, and content that demand attention and drive change.

Responsibilities

Lead and influence system-level change across south and west Auckland

Drive high-impact communications, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement

Champion Maori and Pasifika voices while building strong sector partnerships

A 6 months fixed-term opportunity

Key Responsibilities

Design and execute hard-hitting communications strategies that cut through noise and influence system-level change.

Position and champion innovations with funders, political leaders, and senior stakeholders to secure buy-in and resources.

Forge and maintain strong, mana-enhancing relationships across iwi, grassroots innovators, government, and community sectors.

Capture, document, and translate insights into outputs that build credibility and fuel decision-making.

Lead brand, media, and content strategies that elevate Maori and Pasifika voices, amplifying their influence in the system.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring proven expertise in influencing change, with exceptional communication skills and the ability to engage diverse audiences using innovative tactics.

Strong advocacy, campaigning, or communications experience on socio-economic issues is essential, supported by technical proficiency across multiple media platforms and channels.

Success in this role requires excellent relationship management, the ability to navigate complex socio-political environments, and confidence operating in fast-paced and changeable settings.

A strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing south and west Auckland, empathy for communities experiencing inequity and discrimination, and knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi — alongside at least a beginner level of te reo Maori — are also highly valued.

Minimum of 8 years' relevant experience, with a bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Sound knowledge of te reo Maori

Proven experience working with Pasifika communities.

Current New Zealand driver's licence (or equivalent), with flexibility to travel across the region.

Previous experience working with central and / or local government is desirable.
