Maintenance Engineer

Te Turanga / About the Role Our Hokitika site is Silver Fern Farms only processing facility in the West Coast of the South Island, employing just over 120 people at the peak of the season.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in projects and installation of new site equipment as well as a wide range of mechanical engineering applications across the site.

Ou Pukenga / About You Previous experience in FMCG or transferrable production engineering environments would be an advantage, but the key is the ability to work as part of a team, to identify faults and use analytical and problem-solving skills to provide top level service to the processing plant.

As a key member of the maintenance team, candidates will have good interpersonal skills and an attitude for getting stuck in to get the job done as well as thinking outside of the box – we appreciate and encourage new ideas and thought processes about how we can collaborate across our site to ensure the get to the root cause of issues and fix it right – first time.

Our site operates both day and evening shifts.

Our team of Maintenance teams are required to work to a roster covering production hours which run between 4.30AM and 10PM Monday to Friday.

During our Bobby Calve season these hours are 7.30AM to 4.30PM or 2PM to 1AM.

Due to us working around production, this can occasionally include overtime during the day on Saturdays, finishing at 4.30PM– but in return we will provide you with good $, OT after 45 hours every week, some great training / development and a stellar team of work mates and senior leaders in the business, who not only want to see you succeed – but will support you along the way.

The successful applicant will possess the following skills and attributes : Relevant Trades Qualification (Level 4 Mechanical Diagnostics | Fitter / Turner | Fitter / Welder OR L4 Automotive Engineer | Time spent LV / HD Mechanic) Good knowledge of sound engineering principals and repairs and maintenance procedures on a large industrial processing site – or a passion to learn in this environment.

Ability to analyse problems and implement effective solutions in a timely manner and communicate this with those around you.

Be self-motivated and capable of working both independently and within a tight knit team of engineering support Organised, with the ability to plan and prioritise workload in a challenging engineering environment and lead by example from the front.

Desire to keep learning and upskill – be this in a leadership scope or dual trading into electrical – refrigeration or even project design.
