Au ake mahi | What you'll do
We're looking for a passionate and motivated person to join our team as a Weed Control & Restoration Team Member.
You'll be helping protect Wellington's native environment by controlling pest plants across our ecological restoration sites, hands-on outdoor work that makes a real difference to the health of our city's green spaces.
This role sits within the Operational Projects Team, based at the Parks Newtown Depot.
The team delivers a wide range of maintenance and restoration programmes across the city's parks, reserves, and play spaces.
You'll mainly focus on weed control, but you'll also support a variety of other programmes and contracts such as :
Restoration planting and maintenance
Auditing work related to these programmes
Nga tohu me nga wheako | Qualifications and experience
We're looking for someone with a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong team spirit.
Ideally, you'll have a horticultural qualification or relevant experience, but this isn't essential.
A full, clean Class 1 driver's licence is required, and a Growsafe certificate would be desirable (training can be provided).
You will :
Be self-motivated and physically fit
Have experience using small machinery
Be able to follow programmed maintenance schedules
Demonstrate strong health and safety awareness
Work well both in a team and independently
Have experience interacting with customers or the public

This is a full-time, Monday-Friday position (40 hours per week) based at our Newtown Depot.
Overtime may be required from time to time.
As this is a safety-sensitive role, successful candidates will need to pass a musculoskeletal assessment and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
