About the role | Ko tenei turanga mahi
As part of our Summer Student Programme, you'll get the best of both worlds – time outdoors exploring our parks and reserves, and time indoors building your professional skills.
You'll :
Collect and capture field data to monitor and manage our parks, reserves, and facilities assets.
Spend plenty of time in the outdoors – reading maps, exploring new areas, and applying your knowledge in real-world settings.
Upload and manage your findings using our asset management system and Geographic Information System (GIS).
Get the chance to contribute to exciting projects – from mountain biking trails to roadside vegetation management and retired forestry areas.
Work 40 hours per week across a 12-week fixed-term, with flexibility around your study commitments.

We're looking for enthusiastic students who are passionate about the outdoors and ready to make a real impact.
You'll bring :
Availability to work throughout the summer (Nov–Feb), 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
At least 2 years of tertiary study under your belt, ideally in parks and recreation, environmental science, geography, or GIS.
Map-reading skills, and ideally a driver's license for fieldwork.
A love of teamwork, balanced with the ability to work independently when needed.
Reliability, organisation, and sharp attention to detail.
A strong connection to Te Tauihu / the top of the south, and a passion for contributing to your local environment.
