Job description

Join Nelson City Council's Summer Student Programme to gain hands-on experience in parks and facilities management while working outdoors and in the office.

Your Role

Here's what you will be doing :

Collect and capture field data to monitor and manage parks, reserves, and facilities assets.

Spend time outdoors reading maps, exploring new areas, and applying knowledge in real-world settings.

Upload and manage Findings using asset management systems and Geographic Information System (GIS).

Contribute to projects such as mountain biking trails, roadside vegetation management, and retired forestry areas.

Work 40 hours per week across a 12-week fixed term from November to February, with flexibility around study commitments.

About You

The company is looking for :

Availability to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, throughout the summer (Nov–Feb).

At least 2 years of tertiary study, ideally in parks and recreation, environmental science, geography, or GIS.

Map-reading skills and ideally a driver's license for fieldwork.

A passion for the outdoors and contributing to the local environment in Te Tauihu / the top of the south.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Reliability, organisation, and sharp attention to detail.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly rate of $24.50.
