The Kent Interventional Radiology Centre, a purpose-built unit at the Kent and Canterbury site, fitted with the latest Siemens Artis Pheno angiography system with robotic assistance, full anaesthetic facilities and a dedicated 6-bedded Day Case Unit opened in May 2022.

The unit supports the regional reconfiguration of Vascular services.It runs alongside a hybrid Endovascular Theatre which has been fully refurbished and updated with a Siemens Artis system.

The Trust plans to open a third imaging suite, fitted with a Siemens Icono unit, by June 2024 in order to support the delivery of the regional Stroke Thrombectomy service.

The Radiology department is a large and successful department with 5 CT scanners and 5 MRI scanners with mobile MRI and CT increasing capacity further.

The Trust has recently introduced two SPECT / CT units in Nuclear Medicine.

Main duties of the job

This post is for an Interventional Radiologist with specialised training in Vascular and Non-Vascular Radiology, including EVAR and peripheral intervention.

There is a thriving practice in non-oncological embolotherapy including uterine artery embolization, prostate artery embolization, varicocele embolization and treatment of pelvic congestion.

There is an ongoing consultation process for the centre to become the hub for a Kent wide Vascular network which would bring many opportunities to develop special clinical and research interests.

Person Specification

Qualifications and training

Speciality qualification in Clinical Diagnostic Radiology

General and Vascular CT and MRI reporting

Ability to take full and independent clinical responsibility

Training and experience in Interventional Radiology with ability to perform a wide range of interventions including EVAR and targeted embolisation

Skills and experience

Full GMC Registration

Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), ILETS or graduate of a UK Medical School

CCST Specialist Registration or will obtain within 6 months of interview date

Clinical governance

Listen and clearly communicate

Other requirements

Most roles require an oncall commitment and travel across sites.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to travel effectively between sites
