Our Why

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.

About the Role (your why)

Our Intelligent Workspace team is dedicated to transforming how our customers and support teams work by leveraging automation, intelligent tools, and modern workplace solutions. As a Senior Automation Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions that streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance the user experience within our clients’ workplace environments both internal and external. You will be key in shaping the automation team by identifying opportunities, developing the processes, designing and implementing solutions, mentoring colleagues, and evaluating suitable tools to help drive innovation for the team and to deliver the best outcome for both internal and external customers.

Our offices are based in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton and Tauranga. We believe in bringing people together in person when it matters, but also value the flexibility of remote work for a healthy work / life balance. You and your team decide what works best!

We’re seeking a self-motivated professional who takes pride in producing high-quality work, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, and embraces a mindset of continuous improvement. You’ll find satisfaction in making a meaningful impact while consistently delivering productive, results-driven outcomes.

  • Please note that due to customer requirements, this role requires Permanent Residency or Citizenship and eligibility to undertake a Government Security Clearance

What you’ll do

  • Lead the design and delivery of automation solutions that revolutionise workplace processes and streamline IT service delivery
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers to uncover opportunities for efficiency and innovation—including integration with AI models and large language models (LLMs).
  • Develop advanced scripts, integrations, and automation workflows using the latest cloud platforms and automation tools.
  • Mentor and inspire colleagues, sharing your expertise to elevate our Intelligent Workspace solutions.
  • Drive alignment across technical teams to ensure automation projects support our broader workplace strategy.
  • Champion best practices and provide technical guidance and training on automation tools and processes.
  • We’re agile and responsive to changing needs—your role will evolve as technology and customer requirements do.

    What you’ll bring

    Required Experience :

  • Proven experience designing and implementing process automation solutions within a workplace or IT environment.
  • Strong capabilities with automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, RPA platforms).
  • Experience integrating systems and workflows within Microsoft 365 or comparable enterprise environments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver automation projects.
  • Proven experience in driving continuous improvement initiatives, with a track record of identifying and implementing enhancements to workflows, systems, or processes. Demonstrates precision and thoroughness in execution, ensuring high-quality outcomes through strong attention to detail.
  • Desired Experience :

  • Familiarity with Modern Work concepts, including modern device management, digital collaboration tools, and end-user computing.
  • Experience with Azure infrastructure and services including Logic Apps, Log Analytics and Azure Key Vault.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, including the design, implementation, and maintenance of CI / CD pipelines and code repositories, ensuring efficient, secure, and scalable software delivery practices.
  • Knowledge of ServiceNow, ITSM tools, or workflow automation platforms.
  • Industry certifications relevant to automation and / or modern workplace solutions.
  • Why join us here at Datacom?

Datacom is one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest suppliers of Information Technology professional services. We have managed to maintain a dynamic, agile, small business feel that is often diluted in larger organisations of our size. It's our people that give Datacom its unique culture and energy that you can feel from the moment you meet with us.

We care about our people and provide a range of perks such as social events, chill-out spaces, remote working, flexi-hours and professional development courses to name a few. You’ll have the opportunity to learn, develop your career, connect and bring your true self to work. You will be recognised and valued for your contributions and be able to do your work in a collegial, flat-structured environment.

We operate at the forefront of technology to help Australia and New Zealand’s largest enterprise organisations explore possibilities and solve their greatest challenges, so you will never run out of interesting new challenges and opportunities.

We want Datacom to be an inclusive and welcoming workplace for everyone and take pride in the steps we have taken and continue to take to make our environment fun and friendly, and our people feel supported.
